League formats

Know the battlefield

A Pokémon’s usefulness depends on the league, team composition, available moves, and current rules.

≤ 1,500 CP

Broad accessibility

Many species become viable. Bulk, efficient moves, and balanced coverage often matter more than maximum level.

Resource profile

Entry can be affordable, but specialized Pokémon may require careful IV selection, a second move, or event-exclusive attacks.

Learning priority

Start with a balanced trio and learn matchups. Consistency is more valuable than copying a new team every day.

Team workshop

Give every Pokémon a job

A functional team has a lead plan, a response to bad openings, and a closer that can convert an advantage.

  • Lead: creates pressure and handles common openings.
  • Safe switch: recovers alignment or draws out a counter.
  • Closer: uses stored energy or shield advantage late.
  • Cover shared weaknesses without making every matchup neutral.
  • Know which Pokémon needs shields and which can absorb damage.

Practice routine

Improve one decision at a time

Before

Know your plan

Review your lead’s common wins, losses, and preferred response to a bad matchup.

During

Track energy

Count opposing Fast Attacks approximately and note when a Charged Attack is likely available.

After

Name the turning point

Identify one shield, switch, farm-down, or alignment decision that changed the outcome.

Next set

Change one variable

Keep the team stable while practicing a new response. Too many changes hide the lesson.

Battle questions

Ranking & PvP FAQ

No. In CP-capped leagues, lower Attack with higher Defense and HP can sometimes fit more total stats under the cap. Matchups, breakpoints, and role still matter.
