New Trainer guide

From first catch to first raid

A simple path into the game—no encyclopedic knowledge required.

Step 1

Create your Trainer

Install the app, choose your avatar, and learn the map. PokéStops provide items; Gyms host battles and raids.

Step 2

Build your collection

Tap a nearby Pokémon, aim your Poké Ball, and throw. Use Berries and better Balls for difficult encounters.

Step 3

Choose a team

Join Mystic, Valor, or Instinct. Your team helps determine who controls Gyms, but friends can play together across teams.

Step 4

Meet other Trainers

Add friends, exchange Gifts, trade nearby, form a Party, and coordinate raid teams through your local community.
